There were lots of those ‘important’ films this year that I admired and respected rather than felt personal love for. So instead of the year’s ‘best’ films here is my list of 25 films that I personally felt sucker-punched by this year. Of course there are still a handful that I haven’t watched yet.
And If I think of the most perfect film I saw this year, it was a short called NEST directed by Hlynur Palmason (who also had the excellent Godland in Cannes this year – I’m saving Godland for my 2023 list). I don’t even usually watch shorts but NEST is just amazing and you can watch it on MUBI.
